Toyota’s back at it again. After a long/short run of the Supra, a newer better version might be lurking in the distant future. We’ll I’m not totally sure if this will be the next Supra since Toyota just renewed their Supra trade mark. Only time will tell.
The FT-1 concept has been put on display for awhile now as the “possible” next sports car by Toyota. Toyota needs a flagship car since Lexus has the LFA. Of course their competition, Acura, has the soon to come NSX Hybrid, and Nissan, has the almighty GTR. It’s been rumored that the FT1(or possibly Supra) will be built with a coupe version and a spider version(convertible).
Engine stats has not been revealed but I’m sure the years of the 2jz are over. No more inline 6 made of cast iron for high boost applications although rumors have it that BMW and Toyota are partnering up for new ventures, a turbocharged application might surely be in the mix.
According to Car and Driver, the car could possibly start off in the 40k range. I can’t wait to see it in action.
FYI – This new prototype looks amazing. Let’s hope the production version don’t deviate too much from this one.
